It can be quite nerve racking going to an interview. Often people can be unsuccessful in interviews
because they are nervous or lack self-confidence. We have listed below a few simple guidelines that can
help you in your job search.
| 1. |
Always be on time for an interview - give yourself ample time to get there as lateness
always gives a bad impression. |
| 2. |
Always attend an interview in smart clothing; preferably wear a suit or a dress of
conservative colour. Do not wear too much jewellery. |
| 3. |
Always be extremely courteous when announcing yourself in the reception area and when
you are introduced to the person you are going to see - shake his/her hand firmly and wait
to be offered a seat. |
| 4. |
Always be interested in what the interviewer has to say and do not let your eyes wander
during the interview. |
| 5. |
Do not smoke during an interview. |
| 6. |
Answer all questions in a positive and concise manner and do not wander too far from
what the interviewer wants to know. |
| 7. |
Never interrupt or talk over the interviewer. |
| 8. |
If you feel nervous during your interview let the interviewer know, after all they
would have had to attend an interview themselves at some time or they would not be in a
position to interview you. |
| 9. |
Never be over familiar with the interviewer. |
| 10. |
Be alert, be polite, maintain good eye contact and smile. |
